Every year, Sephora is making a global employee convention event, which is meant to bring together over 250 store managers and brand leaders from around the Globe. The aim of this event is to discuss strategy for the future, and get an early sneak-peek of the upcoming products to be launched in the next retail year. It’s a showcase platform for brands like Chanel, Fendi, Givenchi, Huda Beauty, Valentino, Tom Ford, and the like.

The bar was set pretty high: the Middle East team had to beat the resounding success of last year’s virtual convention organized by the European team by replicating their approach: “make an engaging tv-show looking like webinar over zoom, in a green screen studio, with virtual backgrounds.“
Me: “Creating virtual backgrounds that look premium on a livestream requires months to design and execute, a timeframe which we don’t have at the moment. We could potentially speed up the process by scaling the 3D design team, but we don’t have enough budget for that either. What if we focus on producing a great show and use projected backgrounds instead?”
Client: “Projected backgrounds?”
